In May 2026, Konecranes announced automated gantry long travel for A-RTGs, available for new equipment and retrofits of its A-RTG fleet. The system combines longer-range 3D LiDAR detection with close-range safety scanners.

Automating crane travel is one part of terminal operations. The benefit depends on compatibility with the existing equipment, yard conditions and operating procedures. A retrofit offer for one product family does not establish compatibility with every crane.

Assess one eligible crane and operating lane with the OEM. Document manual travel time, interactions with other vehicles and stop-and-recovery procedures. Agree the acceptance criteria and terminal-system interfaces before scheduling an installation.
